📣 Chilwell School Enhances Communication with Digital Signage

Chilwell School in Nottinghamshire has transformed its internal communications by implementing digital signage powered by the Lenovo Chromebox Micro and TrilbyTV. 🌟 𝐄𝐧𝐝 𝐨𝐟 𝐇𝐚𝐥𝐟 𝐓𝐞𝐫𝐦 𝐔𝐩𝐝𝐚𝐭𝐞 & 𝐄𝐱𝐜𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐍𝐞𝐰𝐬! 🌟
We're rapidly approaching the end of another busy half term! It's been a hectic but productive one, especially with our Year 11s and 13s starting their exams. As these exams continue into the next half term, we want to take a moment to wish all of our students the best of luck as they revise and tackle these important assessments. Your hard work is truly inspiring!

Our 𝐎𝐧𝐞 𝐁𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐤, 𝐎𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐋𝐮𝐧𝐜𝐡 𝐦𝐨𝐝𝐞𝐥 has been running smoothly, and it's fantastic to see students adjusting to the slightly busier school atmosphere. It’s also been wonderful to witness some of the pre-COVID social interactions returning – a welcome change for everyone! 😊

Looking ahead to our final half term, we’re excited about 𝐀𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐞𝐬 𝐖𝐞𝐞𝐤! It’s always such a highlight of the school year, and we can’t wait to see the students making the most of all the fun and enriching experiences. Thank you to all the families who are up-to-date with payments – we really appreciate your support. However, there are still a number of outstanding payments, and as so much organisation goes into planning this week, it’s vital that all payments are made to ensure everything runs smoothly and the students have the best possible experience.

🎮 𝐀 𝐒𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐭-𝐎𝐮𝐭 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐆𝐚𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐄𝐪𝐮𝐢𝐩𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭! 🎮
As part of one of our activities and with plans for a potential Cygnus Club in the future, we are looking to create a collection of gaming equipment, from the retro Commodore 64 to PlayStations and XBoxes. If you have any gaming equipment collecting dust in your attic and would like to donate it to the school, we would be so grateful. Your donation would help provide an awesome experience for our students! 🙌

As we received more nominations than vacancies, the parent governor nominations will now go to a ballot. Please check the letter you received, via Arbor, for the list of candidates, and be sure to vote! There are two ways to vote:

In-Person Voting:
🌼Read the candidate statements included in the letter
🌼Mark an ‘X’ next to the names of the candidates you wish to vote for (only two candidates)
🌼Seal the completed ballot paper in an unmarked envelope
🌼Place that envelope in a second envelope with your full name on it, seal it, and return it to the ballot box at Chilwell School’s reception by Monday, June 2nd at 3pm

Your vote will remain confidential, as your details on the second envelope will only be checked for eligibility, and your vote will be anonymous.

Electronic Voting:
Alternatively, you can vote electronically! Simply complete the form via the link provided in the letter. Please use the email address registered with the school, and note that only one response per email address will be counted

🌞 𝐋𝐨𝐨𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐀𝐡𝐞𝐚𝐝: 𝐒𝐮𝐦𝐦𝐞𝐫 𝐓𝐞𝐫𝐦 𝐑𝐞𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐬 🌞
We will be returning to school after the half term break on Monday, 2nd June 2025. As we head into the warmer months, we’ll continue to keep families updated on any temporary adjustments to uniform expectations due to the weather.

In the meantime, we kindly ask that you remind your children to come to school prepared for the warmer weather:
✅ Bring a refillable water bottle to stay hydrated
✅ Apply sun cream before school
✅ Wear a sun hat or cap for outdoor activities
✅ Take advantage of shaded areas during break and lunch

Your support helps us ensure students stay safe and comfortable while enjoying their learning throughout the summer term! 🌼💧🧢

We’ve had a wonderful week here at school, made even better by the continued stretch of lovely weather—always a welcome boost for both students and staff!

This week marked an important milestone for our Year 11 students, as their GCSE exams have officially begun. We’ve been incredibly impressed by their focus, maturity, and the calm determination they’ve shown during this crucial time. We wish them all the best as they continue through the exam season—your hard work is already making us proud.

We also had a heartfelt and memorable moment as we celebrated our Year 13 students in their Leavers’ Assembly. It was an emotional but joyous occasion. We are so proud of everything this cohort has achieved, and while we’re sad to see them go, we’re excited for the bright futures ahead of them. Whether they’re heading off to university, apprenticeships, or the world of work, we know they’ll continue to shine.

As Deaf Awareness Week comes to a close, we want to take a moment to recognise its importance and reflect on this year’s theme, "Beyond Silence." The week is a time to raise awareness and promote understanding of the Deaf community and the importance of inclusion.

We are proud to have Deaf individuals as part of our school community and remain committed to ensuring that our school is a welcoming and supportive place for everyone.
Many of our students know Toby, our amazing Hearing Dog, who supports his dad, Mr Lucas. Toby is a wonderful reminder of the different ways people navigate the world and the power of support, understanding, and inclusion.

Let’s continue to learn, listen, and move beyond silence — together.

Due to the forecasted high temperatures tomorrow and Friday, students will not be required to wear their blazers and may leave them at home. However, please remind your child to bring a water bottle to stay hydrated throughout the day.

As blazers are often used to carry equipment, please ensure that all necessary items (such as books, stationery, any other school materials i.e timetable) are packed in their bags.

Thank you for your understanding and support.

As we began our new 'one break, one lunch' model yesterday, we wanted to take a moment to share an update and address some of the feedback we’ve received. We understand that the transition may feel busy and, for some students, a little unsettling. Please know that we’re fully aware of these concerns and are actively working to make improvements where needed.

The purpose of this change is to provide better supervision across the school during break and lunch times, enabling us to manage behavior more effectively and have more staff available to support students. This model, which was in place before the pandemic, aims to create a safer and more organised environment for all. While it is indeed busier, we’ve introduced quiet areas where students who may feel overwhelmed can go for a more peaceful space to unwind. These areas are being monitored closely to ensure they meet students’ needs.

We are also working with our catering team to ensure that lunch runs smoothly, minimising wait times and providing plenty of time for students to enjoy their meals and recharge. We understand the importance of students having a proper break, and we’re committed to ensuring they have the opportunity to eat healthily and take a mental break during the day.

Your feedback is invaluable to us, and we continue to encourage students and parents to share their thoughts so that we can refine the process. We’ll be monitoring the situation closely and adjusting as necessary, keeping students' well-being at the heart of every decision.

*Drop them off at the library.
*Use the RETURNS box outside the main library door (regularly cleared).
*Return to Reception with a note stating the student’s name.

Is rowing coming back? My daughter really loved it 😊

Dear Parents/Carers,

We hope you had a restful and enjoyable Easter break and managed to make the most of the lovely weather we’ve been fortunate to have over the past two weeks.

We’re writing to confirm that school reopens tomorrow (Tuesday 22 April), and we’re looking forward to welcoming your child back for the start of the summer term. There’s lots to look forward to over the coming weeks - from exciting end-of-term celebrations to our comprehensive transition programme for the new Year 7 pupils joining us in September 2025.

For our Year 11 and Year 13 students, we’re now entering a key period with GCSEs, A Levels, and vocational exams. We’re incredibly proud of the hard work and commitment they’ve shown in preparing for these important milestones.

As we begin the new term, we’d like to inform you about two updates being introduced this term. These changes will be shared with students during return assemblies, and we appreciate your ongoing support in ensuring their success.

One Break, One Lunch:
Following a successful trial at the end of last term (starting the week of 28 April 2025), we will now be adopting the “one break, one lunch” schedule going forward. Thank you to everyone who provided feedback and support—it’s played a valuable role in making this change work well for both students and staff.

Mobile Phones and Headphones:
In line with Department for Education (DfE) guidance, mobile phones and similar devices must not be seen, heard, or used during the school day. These devices can cause unnecessary distractions, and our aim is to maintain a calm, focused learning environment. If students choose to bring their mobile phone to school, it must be switched off and stored in their school bag (not in their blazer or trouser pockets)
If a student’s device is seen or heard during the day, it will be confiscated and must be collected by a parent or carer.
First time: device returned after parent collection
Second time: collection plus a meeting with the head of year
Third time: collection, SLT meeting, and device must be handed in daily

Reminder for Year 8 Families:
HPV vaccinations will take place on the first day back. Students in Year 8 should attend school in their PE kit to help ensure the process runs smoothly.

Cygnus Activities:
With the exception of Year 11 Intervention Sessions, Cygnus activities will start on Monday 28th April 2025. Information regarding activities for the Summer Term will be sent out on Wednesday.

We’re excited to start the new term and look forward to seeing all of our students bright and early tomorrow morning!

Warm regards,

It's been a busy but rewarding term, and I am so proud of the hard work and dedication shown by both staff and students alike.

Today has been a particularly special day at Chilwell School as we raised awareness of Autism acceptance. The atmosphere has been full of energy and positivity, with students and staff wearing bright colours to show their support and understanding. We’ve had music playing during break and lunch, filling the school with an uplifting vibe. We also ran a tombola raffle with some fantastic Easter goodies up for grabs, all in support of our Learning Support Department. This fundraising initiative will directly benefit students in our Learning Support Department, helping to provide them with the resources and support they need to thrive.

It’s always wonderful to see our school community coming together for such important causes. Your continued support truly makes a difference, and I want to thank everyone who contributed to making today such a success.

As we look ahead, I’d like to remind all parents and students that 𝐘𝐞𝐚𝐫 𝟖 𝐯𝐚𝐜𝐜𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 will take place on the first day back, 𝐓𝐮𝐞𝐬𝐝𝐚𝐲 𝟐𝟐𝐧𝐝 𝐀𝐩𝐫𝐢𝐥 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟓. Please note that students should come to school in their PE kit on this day, as this will help with the smooth running of the vaccination process.

Finally, I want to wish each and every one of you a 𝐟𝐚𝐛𝐮𝐥𝐨𝐮𝐬 𝐄𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐛𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐤. Whether you’re spending time with family, catching up on some well-earned rest, or enjoying the springtime sunshine, I hope you have a chance to relax and recharge. We look forward to welcoming everyone back on 𝐓𝐮𝐞𝐬𝐝𝐚𝐲 𝟐𝟐𝐧𝐝 𝐀𝐩𝐫𝐢𝐥 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟓 for the start of the Summer Term, which promises to be just as exciting and rewarding as the term we’ve had.

Thank you once again for your continued support throughout the term. We are so fortunate to have such a dedicated and caring community here at Chilwell School.

Enjoy your Easter break, and we can’t wait to see you all when we return!

Next week, we are proudly celebrating Autism Acceptance Week. It’s an important opportunity for us all to come together and deepen our understanding, support, and acceptance of students and individuals with autism.

𝐀𝐮𝐭𝐢𝐬𝐦 𝐀𝐜𝐜𝐞𝐩𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐖𝐞𝐞𝐤: As part of our celebrations, we are holding a non-uniform day next Friday, with the theme of colour. We encourage all students to wear something colourful to show their support. There will be no cost for this, and we hope to see lots of vibrant outfits!

Along with the non-uniform day, there will also be a raffle, with tickets on sale throughout the week. The lucky winners will receive chocolaty treat prizes on Friday. In support of this, we are seeking donations of Easter treats to make the raffle even more special. If you would like to contribute, please feel free to send in Easter-themed goodies such as chocolates, small Easter eggs, or other sweet treats. Your support means so much as we come together to promote greater understanding and acceptance for those with autism. A donation tub will be available in the main reception.

𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐢𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐞 𝐁𝐚𝐤𝐞 𝐒𝐚𝐥𝐞: The Prom Committee will be hosting a cake and sweet sale on Friday during break time in the Quads to raise funds for prom-related items such as the photo booth, balloons, and the sweet cart. Please share this information with your child and encourage them to take part in this fun event.
