Catch up funding 2023-24





Library lessons

Year 7 and 8 fortnightly lessons in the library to boost reading levels and ensure students have greater access to a range of vocabulary. 6 periods per week


Accelerated reader

Students in year 7, 8 and 9 identified through reading tests and given text to reads based on ability. 2hrs per week


1:1 Guided reading

Guided reading with support staff for identified students. 12 periods per week


Guided reading

Guided reading with yr11 pupils for identified students, oversee by English staff. 3 registrations per week.


Reading assessments

Reading assessments and to identify students needing support, track progress and inform interventions.


Brilliant books awards

Lessons on review writing, character, plot and sense of place with selected students. Author visits to the school.



local library and bookstore visits


Handwriting tests

Hand writing tests for students who have been identified by staff and LS. 5 hours per term.


iPad and Chromebook

iPads/Chromebooks to support students in lessons during extended written pieces.

Nurture group

Identified students 4 hours per week in nurture group. This is to support both their academic progression and social interactions.


Curriculum pathway

Some students additional literacy and numeracy sessions instead of options (12 periods) or language lessons (4 periods).


Homework support

Homework support for students with low literacy levels before and after school
