As we come to the end of another busy term, I would like to take this opportunity to say how proud we are of our students. They have been commendable throughout the winter months, showing resilience, positivity and maturity - even when faced with a school site that has been a little leaky in places and undeniably cold at times. Their attitude and commitment to learning have not gone unnoticed and we are incredibly grateful for the way they continue to represent our school community.
This term has been full of energy and opportunity. We have enjoyed a wide range of sporting fixtures, with students demonstrating teamwork, determination and excellent sportsmanship. Alongside this, there have been a number of exciting trips and enrichment activities that have helped bring learning to life beyond the classroom. To see just how much our students get up to, we encourage families to follow our Instagram page, where we regularly share snapshots of the wonderful experiences taking place across the school.

While this project is still in its very early stages, I want to reassure you that the process has now officially begun. We are currently in the feasibility stage, during which the site is being carefully assessed to determine the most appropriate positioning and layout for a new school building. At this stage, no decisions have been finalised.
As part of this initial work, we have completed the first round of questionnaires and discussions that focus on how the school currently operates and, most importantly, what matters most to our pupils, families, staff and wider community. This feedback is a crucial foundation for shaping any future plans.
It is important to be open about timescales. Large-scale school rebuild projects are complex and typically span several years. At present, we are anticipating an overall timeline of approximately three years, though this is subject to change as feasibility work and planning progress.
One principle that is extremely important to us is that the school site remains at the heart of the community. Access to leisure facilities and community use of the site are key priorities, and these are central to our ongoing discussions.
We are currently in conversations with all relevant partners to ensure that any future development delivers the very best outcome for both the school and the wider community. As plans develop and more certainty becomes available, we will keep families fully informed and provide further opportunities to share views.
Thank you for your continued support and engagement. We appreciate that change can raise questions and we are committed to clear communication as this process moves forward.

Keeping our students safe is always our highest priority. We are pleased to share that we have added new safeguarding tools to the school website and student portal to make it easier for students, parents and staff to get help, raise concerns and access support whenever they need it.
๐๐จ๐ง๐๐ข๐๐ โ ๐๐ก๐๐ซ๐ ๐ ๐๐จ๐ง๐๐๐ซ๐ง
Confide is a simple online form that allows worries or concerns to be reported quickly and safely.
Can be used by students, parents or staff
Concerns can be shared anonymously if preferred
Suitable for any issue that makes you feel worried, unsafe, or unsure
Reports are sent directly to the schoolโs safeguarding team for follow-up and support
Confide is there for those moments when speaking to someone in person feels difficult, or when you want to make sure something important is shared.
๐๐๐๐ โ ๐๐ง๐ฅ๐ข๐ง๐ ๐๐๐๐๐ญ๐ฒ ๐๐ฎ๐ฉ๐ฉ๐จ๐ซ๐ญ
We have also added direct access to CEOP (Child Exploitation and Online Protection Command) for support with online safety concerns.
For worries about online behaviour
If someone is making you feel uncomfortable or unsafe online
For concerns about online grooming, exploitation or abuse
Run by CEOP, a specialist command of UK police focused on protecting children online
CEOP provides expert help and advice, and reports go straight to trained professionals who know how to respond to online safety concerns.
These tools are there to ensure that no concern is too small and that everyone in our school community knows where to turn for help. We encourage students and families to familiarise themselves with these features and use them whenever needed.

While the vast majority of students continue to meet expectations, we have recently seen an increase in requests to rearrange detentions. We would like to remind families that detentions are an important part of maintaining high standards and consistency across the school. Rearranging detentions will only be permitted in extreme circumstances (medical appointments, etc) and requests for convenience or clashes with social arrangements will not be authorised. We appreciate your support in reinforcing the message that actions have consequences and that accountability is part of helping our young people develop responsibility and resilience.

Finally, a reminder of the importance of attendance and punctuality. Being in school, on time, every day plays a vital role in studentsโ learning, progress and wellbeing. Arriving promptly ensures students are settled, supported and ready to learn from the very start of the day, setting positive habits that will benefit them both now and in the future.

Dear Families,
We hope you had a lovely Christmas and would like to wish you all a very happy New Year as we begin 2026. We are very much looking forward to welcoming all students back to school tomorrow and starting the new term together.
Although our heating systems are fully operational and classrooms will be warm, the current spell of extreme cold weather means we kindly ask that children attend school wearing appropriate warm school clothing. Please ensure they have a warm coat, hat, scarf, gloves and suitable school footwear to keep them comfortable and safe, particularly during arrival, departure and outdoor periods.
Our school site has been gritted; however, we ask everyone to take extra care when travelling to and from school. Roads, pavements and footpaths remain slippery in places, so please allow extra time for journeys and remain vigilant when walking on and around the school grounds.
Students are expected to be in tutor rooms for 8:40am.
Thank you for your continued support in helping us keep everyone safe. We look forward to welcoming the students back tomorrow and to a positive and successful year ahead. ... See MoreSee Less

There has been significant media coverage around flu this year. We are pleased to confirm that the school nursing team will be returning on 12 January 2026 to offer flu vaccinations to any students who missed their appointment or who now wish to receive it.

We kindly remind parents and carers that meetings with staff must be pre-arranged. For safeguarding and operational reasons, staff are unable to leave lessons or other duties to meet without prior notice.
If you wish to discuss a concern, please contact the school office or use the appropriate communication channels to arrange an appointment. This ensures that the right member of staff is available and that sufficient time can be given to your query.
Turning up to school and requesting an immediate meeting places pressure on staff and can disrupt learning for students. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation in helping us maintain a calm, safe, and well-organised school environment.
Thank you for your continued support in working with us positively and respectfully.

As we come to the end of a very full and successful term, I would like to thank students, staff, parents and carers for your continued support and partnership. Your commitment, generosity and positivity make our school a truly special community.
We wish all our families a very Merry Christmas and a happy, healthy New Year. We hope the holiday period provides time to rest, reflect and enjoy time together.
Students will return to school on Tuesday 6 January 2026 and we look forward to welcoming everyone back ready for the new term.
Warmest wishes,

๐ Headteacherโs Update โ End of Half Term ๐
What a fantastic start to the academic year! Weโve welcomed new students and staff, introduced our refreshed school values and launched new processes and rewards โ already making a real difference. The energy around school has been brilliant and itโs been wonderful to see so many students engaging so positively with learning and school life.
This half term we hosted two open evenings: our Main School Open Evening and last nightโs Sixth Form Open Evening in Lakeview. Both were a great chance to showcase our school and meet prospective students and families. Huge thanks to all staff and students who helped make these evenings so special!
We also ran our first End of Half Term Success Assemblies and SPARKS Awards, celebrating students who go above and beyond. Itโs been amazing to recognise so many high-flying, all-round outstanding students.
Cygnus after-school clubs are back! From cooking club and running club to extra Year 11 study sessions ahead of GCSEs, students across all year groups are getting involved, developing new skills and enjoying these opportunities beyond the classroom.
Weโve also had several exciting educational trips take place this half term, giving students the chance to explore new experiences, extend their learning beyond the classroom and make lasting memories. A huge thank you to all staff who organised and supported these opportunities โ and to our students, who represented the school so brilliantly.
We were thrilled to welcome local MP Juliet Campbell to Chilwell. She met with staff, students, and our Year 11 prefects, who asked brilliant questions about politics, mental health, AI, and more.
Students shared the issues that matter most to them โ from vaping and social media to Charlie in Year 9 campaigning for a BMX track! Juliet also praised our support for dyslexic students and was pleased that Chilwell School will receive Government funding as part of the School Rebuilding Programme โ helping make our school fit for the future.
We also hosted our Family Night Quiz, which went down a storm! A fabulous evening of laughter, friendly competition and community spirit. Canโt wait for the next one!
Our sports teams have had a fantastic start too, with some brilliant performances and teamwork across year groups โ well done to all involved!
As we look ahead to the next half term, weโll continue building on this momentum, celebrating achievement and ensuring every student feels valued and supported.
Enjoy the half term break โ youโve all earned it! See you on the 3rd November 2025! ... See MoreSee Less
