Due to the forecasted high temperatures tomorrow and Friday, students will not be required to wear their blazers and may leave them at home. However, please remind your child to bring a water bottle to stay hydrated throughout the day.

As blazers are often used to carry equipment, please ensure that all necessary items (such as books, stationery, any other school materials i.e timetable) are packed in their bags.

Thank you for your understanding and support.

As we began our new 'one break, one lunch' model yesterday, we wanted to take a moment to share an update and address some of the feedback we’ve received. We understand that the transition may feel busy and, for some students, a little unsettling. Please know that we’re fully aware of these concerns and are actively working to make improvements where needed.

The purpose of this change is to provide better supervision across the school during break and lunch times, enabling us to manage behavior more effectively and have more staff available to support students. This model, which was in place before the pandemic, aims to create a safer and more organised environment for all. While it is indeed busier, we’ve introduced quiet areas where students who may feel overwhelmed can go for a more peaceful space to unwind. These areas are being monitored closely to ensure they meet students’ needs.

We are also working with our catering team to ensure that lunch runs smoothly, minimising wait times and providing plenty of time for students to enjoy their meals and recharge. We understand the importance of students having a proper break, and we’re committed to ensuring they have the opportunity to eat healthily and take a mental break during the day.

Your feedback is invaluable to us, and we continue to encourage students and parents to share their thoughts so that we can refine the process. We’ll be monitoring the situation closely and adjusting as necessary, keeping students' well-being at the heart of every decision.

Reminder emails have been sent to all Year 11 students today, listing the books they currently have checked out from the library. Students are not required to return them yet, but are encouraged to locate their books and keep them safe until after exams.
After exams, there are three ways to return library books:
*Drop them off at the library.
*Use the RETURNS box outside the main library door (regularly cleared).
*Return to Reception with a note stating the student’s name.

Thanks for your cooperation! 📚

Is rowing coming back? My daughter really loved it 😊

Dear Parents/Carers,

We hope you had a restful and enjoyable Easter break and managed to make the most of the lovely weather we’ve been fortunate to have over the past two weeks.

We’re writing to confirm that school reopens tomorrow (Tuesday 22 April), and we’re looking forward to welcoming your child back for the start of the summer term. There’s lots to look forward to over the coming weeks - from exciting end-of-term celebrations to our comprehensive transition programme for the new Year 7 pupils joining us in September 2025.

For our Year 11 and Year 13 students, we’re now entering a key period with GCSEs, A Levels, and vocational exams. We’re incredibly proud of the hard work and commitment they’ve shown in preparing for these important milestones.

As we begin the new term, we’d like to inform you about two updates being introduced this term. These changes will be shared with students during return assemblies, and we appreciate your ongoing support in ensuring their success.

One Break, One Lunch:
Following a successful trial at the end of last term (starting the week of 28 April 2025), we will now be adopting the “one break, one lunch” schedule going forward. Thank you to everyone who provided feedback and support—it’s played a valuable role in making this change work well for both students and staff.

Mobile Phones and Headphones:
In line with Department for Education (DfE) guidance, mobile phones and similar devices must not be seen, heard, or used during the school day. These devices can cause unnecessary distractions, and our aim is to maintain a calm, focused learning environment. If students choose to bring their mobile phone to school, it must be switched off and stored in their school bag (not in their blazer or trouser pockets)
If a student’s device is seen or heard during the day, it will be confiscated and must be collected by a parent or carer.
First time: device returned after parent collection
Second time: collection plus a meeting with the head of year
Third time: collection, SLT meeting, and device must be handed in daily

Reminder for Year 8 Families:
HPV vaccinations will take place on the first day back. Students in Year 8 should attend school in their PE kit to help ensure the process runs smoothly.

Cygnus Activities:
With the exception of Year 11 Intervention Sessions, Cygnus activities will start on Monday 28th April 2025. Information regarding activities for the Summer Term will be sent out on Wednesday.

We’re excited to start the new term and look forward to seeing all of our students bright and early tomorrow morning!

Warm regards,

It's been a busy but rewarding term, and I am so proud of the hard work and dedication shown by both staff and students alike.

Today has been a particularly special day at Chilwell School as we raised awareness of Autism acceptance. The atmosphere has been full of energy and positivity, with students and staff wearing bright colours to show their support and understanding. We’ve had music playing during break and lunch, filling the school with an uplifting vibe. We also ran a tombola raffle with some fantastic Easter goodies up for grabs, all in support of our Learning Support Department. This fundraising initiative will directly benefit students in our Learning Support Department, helping to provide them with the resources and support they need to thrive.

It’s always wonderful to see our school community coming together for such important causes. Your continued support truly makes a difference, and I want to thank everyone who contributed to making today such a success.

As we look ahead, I’d like to remind all parents and students that 𝐘𝐞𝐚𝐫 𝟖 𝐯𝐚𝐜𝐜𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 will take place on the first day back, 𝐓𝐮𝐞𝐬𝐝𝐚𝐲 𝟐𝟐𝐧𝐝 𝐀𝐩𝐫𝐢𝐥 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟓. Please note that students should come to school in their PE kit on this day, as this will help with the smooth running of the vaccination process.

Finally, I want to wish each and every one of you a 𝐟𝐚𝐛𝐮𝐥𝐨𝐮𝐬 𝐄𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐛𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐤. Whether you’re spending time with family, catching up on some well-earned rest, or enjoying the springtime sunshine, I hope you have a chance to relax and recharge. We look forward to welcoming everyone back on 𝐓𝐮𝐞𝐬𝐝𝐚𝐲 𝟐𝟐𝐧𝐝 𝐀𝐩𝐫𝐢𝐥 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟓 for the start of the Summer Term, which promises to be just as exciting and rewarding as the term we’ve had.

Thank you once again for your continued support throughout the term. We are so fortunate to have such a dedicated and caring community here at Chilwell School.

Enjoy your Easter break, and we can’t wait to see you all when we return!

Next week, we are proudly celebrating Autism Acceptance Week. It’s an important opportunity for us all to come together and deepen our understanding, support, and acceptance of students and individuals with autism.

𝐀𝐮𝐭𝐢𝐬𝐦 𝐀𝐜𝐜𝐞𝐩𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐖𝐞𝐞𝐤: As part of our celebrations, we are holding a non-uniform day next Friday, with the theme of colour. We encourage all students to wear something colourful to show their support. There will be no cost for this, and we hope to see lots of vibrant outfits!

Along with the non-uniform day, there will also be a raffle, with tickets on sale throughout the week. The lucky winners will receive chocolaty treat prizes on Friday. In support of this, we are seeking donations of Easter treats to make the raffle even more special. If you would like to contribute, please feel free to send in Easter-themed goodies such as chocolates, small Easter eggs, or other sweet treats. Your support means so much as we come together to promote greater understanding and acceptance for those with autism. A donation tub will be available in the main reception.

𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐢𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐞 𝐁𝐚𝐤𝐞 𝐒𝐚𝐥𝐞: The Prom Committee will be hosting a cake and sweet sale on Friday during break time in the Quads to raise funds for prom-related items such as the photo booth, balloons, and the sweet cart. Please share this information with your child and encourage them to take part in this fun event.

𝐘𝐞𝐚𝐫 𝟏𝟏 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝟏𝟑 𝐏𝐡𝐨𝐭𝐨𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐩𝐡𝐬: Order Now for Free Delivery
We are pleased to inform you that the Year 11 and Year 13 photographs have now been issued to students. To qualify for free delivery to school, please make sure to place your orders as soon as possible.

𝐎𝐧𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐞 𝐭𝐚𝐥𝐤 - 𝐒𝐮𝐩𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐀𝐃𝐇𝐃: Book online for an online talk with Jane Keyworth supporting children with ADHD, offering practical support and explaining more about the condition. See image for further details.

𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐞𝐬 𝐭𝐨 𝐅𝐫𝐞𝐞 𝐒𝐜𝐡𝐨𝐨𝐥 𝐌𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐬: We would like to inform you about important changes to the eligibility and application process for Free School Meals. These changes reflect the introduction of Universal Credit and the phasing out of other income-based benefits. The transitional protection period will end on 31 March 2025.

We strongly encourage all parents and carers to check eligibility online before the deadline to ensure your child continues to receive free school meals. Online applications provide immediate results. If you are unable to apply online, you can contact the Nottinghamshire County Council customer service centre at 0300 500 80 80.

𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐞𝐬 𝐭𝐨 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐃𝐚𝐲:
We’re wanting to make some positive changes to our school’s break and lunchtime arrangements, therefore for the last three Friday’s starting from this week - 21st March 2025 we will be trialling a one break, one lunch model. If successful we plan to move to this model after the easter break.

𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭’𝐬 𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐠?
One Break for Everyone: 10:40am – 11:00am for all students.
One Lunch Period:
First Sitting (12:40 – 13:05): Year 7 and Year 10
Second Sitting (13:05 – 13:30): Year 8 and Year 9
Year 11 will enjoy their lunch in the Bistro.

𝐖𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞 𝐂𝐚𝐧 𝐒𝐭𝐮𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬 𝐄𝐚𝐭?
Hot Meals in the Small Canteen for all year groups.
Grab-and-Go Snacks and Sandwiches in the Large Canteen and Snack Shack.
The Bistro dining experience for Year 11.

𝐓𝐨𝐢𝐥𝐞𝐭𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐅𝐥𝐨𝐰:
More staff will be available to monitor these areas to ensure things run smoothly.

𝐖𝐡𝐲 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐞?
We believe this new approach will make lunchtime simpler, faster, and more enjoyable for everyone! It will also reduce waiting times, make it easier to supervise, and give students a more relaxed experience.

𝐇𝐨𝐰 𝐘𝐨𝐮 𝐂𝐚𝐧 𝐇𝐞𝐥𝐩:
Please encourage your child to:
Be on time for their sitting so everyone has enough time to eat.
Keep the canteen area tidy and respect their peers and staff.

We’re excited about these changes and confident they’ll improve the lunchtime experience. If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to reach out.

𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐢𝐜 𝐑𝐞𝐥𝐢𝐞𝐟:
We are excited to announce that also this Friday, we will be celebrating Comic Relief with a non-uniform day. Students are encouraged to participate by wearing casual clothes, red themed clothes, silly outfits, or even pyjamas to mark the occasion.

𝐏𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐢𝐩𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐟𝐞𝐞:
We ask for a £1 donation from students to take part in the non-uniform day. These donations will be collected in buckets at each gate. For those who prefer not to donate, students are welcome to come to school in their school uniform instead. There will be cake sales at break time for students to buy with cash only. All proceeds will go to support the charitable causes of Comic Relief, both in the UK and internationally.

We look forward to seeing all the creative and fun outfits! Please ensure that students dress appropriately for a school environment.

Thank you for your support in making this a fun and impactful day for all!
