Our high quality careers education has been designed to raise the aspirations of all young people. It increases motivation by linking activities in school with preparation for life post 16 and post 18. Chilwell School provides a comprehensive range of opportunities for students to be able to receive careers and work-related information from external providers and institutions. These provide a core to our careers and guidance entitlement programme.
Careers Education Information Advice and Guidance (CEIAG) contributes to raising student achievement, helps students focus on their longer-term career ambitions and ensure an equality of opportunity for all.
At Chilwell School we provide a thorough CEIAG programme to students in every year group and of all abilities and this includes aspects of work related learning, option choices, enterprise education and developing skills essential for the workplace.
Students in our Sixth Form are very well supported as they make their applications to University, apply for Higher Level Apprenticeships or other post 18 pathways.
Most people spend many years of their life in a working environment and it is important to equip our students with the necessary skills for them to career plan and know how and where to access impartial and unbiased information. Developing key enterprise and employability skills are important. We encourage our students at the end of Year 11 to apply to the National Citizen Service as a way for them to recognise and understand the needs of their communities.
Additionally, as part of their entitlement, students have access to a range of external providers to ensure they learn about the world of work, what is expected for an apprenticeship; the range of apprenticeships and the range of qualifications available post-16.
The Careers programme is developed in consideration of the Gatsby Report's eight benchmarks.

We have a careers adviser based in school. Through a structured programme she is able to interview students as they approach key transition points and 14 and 16.
Parents/carers have an important role to play in supporting their child with their careers planning and we have provided some useful documents linked to this page and a dedicated parents/carers page.
CEIAG is on-going throughout the academic year and is delivered through PSHCE lessons, Discovery Days, external trips and is enhanced by working with local businesses, colleges and Universities.
Review of the current provision
The school will assess the impact of the careers programme on an annual basis and adapt provision when required to meet the needs of our local provision. The next review will take place: July 2022.
The careers resource area in the school library has information on a range of subjects such as courses, apprenticeships, jobs, health, money and free time.
