Welcome to Chilwell School

Share, Care, Believe, Achieve

7th July 2023

A week of induction for year fives and sixes and a welcome evening for new parents were the highlights of this week.

On Monday we had over 230 year five students taking part in a range of activities as a taster of secondary school life and Wednesday and Thursday was an opportunity for our new intake for September 2023 to meet their teachers, classmates and explore the school.

The slides from our welcome evening for parents can be found here.

Matilda

We are really excited to present our school production of Matilda next week. Our students have been working towards this for some months now and we are excited to present what will be a fantastic event.

Holiday Activities and Food Programme - Summer 2023

Nottinghamshire County Council launched the Summer 2023 programme on Monday 23rd June

HAF is the Department for Education funded programme offering FUNDED activities and food for children receiving benefits-related free school meals. These programmes run during the following school holidays: spring, summer, autumn (October) and winter (Christmas) holidays.

Children aged between 5 – 16 years (Reception aged 4 and year 11 inclusive) in receipt of benefits-related free school meals are eligible for free holiday activities and food. This is not a food voucher scheme and is available additionally to the Household Support Fund.

Families with eligible children should have received today a printed copy to their doorstep along with a letter containing a unique HAF code to use when booking onto activities. If you have not received this and are entitled to do so please follow this link - Nottinghamshire.gov.uk/HAFprogramme

Cygnus

We will be publicising our 2023 - 24 Cygnus enhancement programme next week with the opportunity for students to sign up for activities. Please look out for a message early next week.

End of term

As we look forward to activities week, this is a reminder that school wil finish for students at 12.00pm on 21st July. School transport will be available for students who use this facility.

Traveller encampment

Thank you for your understanding with the delayed start last Monday whilst we dealt with the unauthorised encampment on the school field. We will always take assertive action to ensure that the school land is protected for students and we were pleased that school has not been disrupted this week.

End of term news

I will be writing to all parents next week with general end of term news and welcomes and farewells to staff who are joining or leaving Chilwell.

Strike action

Thank you again for your understanding with the two days of strike action this week. It appears that there remains little progress in hearing the recommendations of the School Teachers' Review Body that are currently sitting with the Secretary of State for Education. We hope that there will be a proper response soon so that we can look forward to a new school year with a properly funded education system.

**PLEASE NOTE** Calls may be monitored or recorded for training and quality purposes.
