Welcome to Chilwell School

Share, Care, Believe, Achieve

31st March 2023

We hope the rainy end of March will soon become sunny April and that you have a good break before we return on Monday 17th April.

Punctuality and uniform

We have picked up more students this week who have been late arriving to school. Please can parents ensure that our expectations of punctuality are reinforced so that students are on time and can start the school day promptly at 8.40am.

On our return we will also be ensuring that students continue to arrive properly dressed for school, with shirts tucked in, ties on and with all equipment. These two areas of focus will be on uniform and lateness. On punctuality, please communicate with school if there is going to be a genuine reason for lateness to avoid a sanction being issued and support the school by ensuring your child is able to arrive on time.

On uniform, there will be a particular focus on ensuring that pupils are not coming to school wearing hoodies. The wet weather has meant that we would urge students to be wearing coats, but hooded sweatshirts are a banned item in school and must not be worn in place of a coat during cold weather. Heads of year will be confiscating hoodies that are worn to school and will not be returned until the end of the day.

Finally, a reminder that pupils are permitted to wear one stud per ear, one ring per hand and a watch. Any jewellery that does not fit the criteria will be asked to be removed.

Our uniform policy is available here to check our expectations. Thank you for your support.

New families

In the first week back after Easter we will be welcoming families of children who will be joining us in September. In addition, we have a series of events to ensure that students make an effective transition to secondary school. We have been really pleased with the systems over the last few years and so new students can expect to receive lots of support as we move through the next few months.

Reporting absence

We continue to try to ease communication between home and school. If there is a need for your child to not be in school, please use the form to request leave of absence. This can be found on our absence page.

We wish everyone a good break and reminder to our year eleven and year thirteen to make the best use of the time for revision.

**PLEASE NOTE** Calls may be monitored or recorded for training and quality purposes.
