Welcome to Chilwell School

Share, Care, Believe, Achieve

2nd February 2024

Thank you to Ms Ludanyi for the dawn photo of Chilwell lake. It has been looking lovely first thing in the morning this week!

Half-term and INSET day

This is a reminder that we finish for the half-term on Friday 9th February. We have a planned INSET day for staff on Monday 19th February, so please remember that the first day back for students will be Tuesday 20th February.

Community safety

Yesterday we had our planned police assembly with year ten as part of the series about keeping our community safe referred to in the blog earlier in the year. We continue to promote this with students to ensure that we are all playing our part in safeguarding our streets and our children.

Farewell to Mr Widdowson

We are sad to announce that Mr Widdowson will be leaving us at the end of next week. Mr Widdowson has been at Chilwell since September 2007 and as year leader has supported and led many hundreds of students. He has combined high expectations with a sense of fun and we will miss him greatly. We wish him the best as he starts his retirement.

OFSTED inspection

I made our view of OFSTED inspections clear nearly a year ago in this post. Parents will be aware that we had our OFSTED "section 8" inspection on Tuesday and Wednesday of this week. This was under the system which we expect to see changed over the next few years to one that is less reductive. Having said that, we found our inspection team thorough and helpful. Thank you for the large number of responses we had to the parent survey - you can see the responses here. Thank you also for the additional comments received to help the inspector come to a judgement about the school. I have already thanked our students for the way they demonstrated to the inspection team their engagement with learning and thank you also to our parents for your continued support. The full report will now go through a series of quality assurance checks and then will be made available to you as soon as it is published, which I expect to be before the end of March.

Football

A mixed week for our footballers, with a decisive 2-0 win for year eleven against Toot Hill, but a defeat for our year eights in an away game against The Becket School.

**PLEASE NOTE** Calls may be monitored or recorded for training and quality purposes.
