Welcome to Chilwell School

Share, Care, Believe, Achieve

22nd December 2023

We wish all of our families and friends a restful and happy Christmas break.

Investment in Chilwell School

Parents will be aware of the news shared twelve months ago that Chilwell School will be rebuilt as part of the national School Rebuilding Programme. Whilst we are still some way from the design and planning stage for this major project, we are already welcoming additional students into the school, over and above our admission number. As a result we are already in need of additional accommodation well before we get the new school. In discussions with the local authority, we will be having additional reusable classrooms and an expansion of our current blocks in readiness for next academic year. We are undertaking this in partnership with the local authority and have already begun the planning for the installation of these classrooms later in the year. These continue to be exciting times as we see more and more families join our school community.

STEM Silver Crest awards

Two of our STEM club have successfully completed their Silver Crest award this term. Eiton and Lok in year nine undertook ten hours worth of project work. This week they presented their findings to Dr Stuettgen and online. In addition, they have presented to a researcher from the University of Coventry. The title of their project was ‘fertilisers of the future’. They had researched different problems with fertilisers commonly used today and created their own environmentally better version using food waste. Well done!

Pantomime!

On Wednesday and Thursday, our year sevens were treated to the Nottingham Playhouse pantomime. Opportunities in the arts are an important aspect of our provision and it was good to bring the term to an end for year seven students with this performance.

Save the Children

Wednesday was "Wear something Chrismassy" and it was good to see so many students and staff in festive spirits. By the end of the day we had made £561 - thank you to everyone for their donations.

Kanye makes the England squad

We are thrilled that Kanye Bradshaw has been selected for the England U15 mens football squad. Congratulations to Kanye for his commitment and hard work at achieving such a prestigious opportunity.

Farewell and thank you

As we end this term we say farewell to Mr Clynick, Mrs Thomas, Mr Holmes and Mrs Ault. They have all contributed a significant amount to the life of the school and we wish them well as they move to new posts. Thank you.
