Welcome to Chilwell School

Share, Care, Believe, Achieve

9th June 2023

Parents will almost certainly have seen the national news regarding the recruitment issues for schools across the country. The end of May is always a difficult time as schools prepare for any further recruitment that may be necessary.

I am pleased that we were able to make early appointments for next year and so we can plan for a full complement of staff to provide for students in September. We will again be taking increased numbers in year seven and are already well underway with timetabling for the new year.

Second welcome evening for families of year six students

We will be holding our second online welcome event on Thursday next week (15th June)  for families of years six students. Families should already have received an invitation and the log in code will be issued via email next Thursday.

Forthcoming events

Over the next few weeks we are looking forward to a joint family of schools musical event, our own music concert and the school production. The final half-term is full of a range of events and we also will be looking forward in July to sports day and our wonderful activities week in the last week of term.

Transition to sixth form

Whilst our year eleven students are busy with the final weeks of their examinations, we are planning for the transition days to sixth form which will be held for them on 27th and 28th June. Students will be able to engage with their chosen A level courses and ensure they are prepared for the next stage of their education. Our Lakeview sixth form provision is designed to be an environment which combines the same all round support that students will have received over the last five years, combined with the space to develop independent study skills and an expertise in their chosen academic areas. We have already accepted a large number of external applications. Our transition days are recommended for everyone who has applied and been interviewed for our sixth form.

Hot weather - w/c Monday 12th June

We are aware that the forecast is for very hot weather at the start of next week. In light of that, it will not be necessary for students to wear or bring their blazers to school and we suggest also that students have a bottle of water, a hat and sun cream.

**PLEASE NOTE** Calls may be monitored or recorded for training and quality purposes.
