The details of the arrangements can be found here. The strike is in the context of funding and recruitment issues that have been building in the education sector for a number of years. It is vital that we are able to recruit high quality staff in schools and I am deeply concerned that that only 59% of the national target for secondary teacher recruitment was met in 2022-23. In some subject areas it is much worse, with only 17% of the physics teachers that the country will need being recruited. At Chilwell School, we continue to do our best to ensure we have high quality provision through expert staff and I am really pleased with our staffing complement. However, we need to plan for the future and so I hope that the funding and recruitment crisis can be resolved as soon as possible.

Attendance/ absence monitoring

Please follow the link to view our updated process for reporting student absences. From Monday 23rd January 2023 we have been using Weduc our online communication system, making the process easier and smoother for families and monitoring within school. 

Hope

We were really pleased to receive thanks from Hope Nottingham for the contributions made by families via the school to the Mayor of Broxtowe's Christmas appeal. In total we donated 190kgs of food to those most in need. Many thanks to all of our families.

Teaching and Learning research

Our research groups will be meeting next week to continue the development of teaching and learning at Chilwell. The focus on modelling and scaffolding, SEND cognition, strategies to support readers below age related expectation and using technology to aid progress are already having an enhanced impact and the work undertaken by our staff means that current research is embedded in our work in classrooms.
