Our aim is to develop a passion for foreign language learning amongst pupils of all abilities by using a wide range of resources and technologies to meet the needs of each individual. With the importance of the global economy, we are determined that our students will leave us as 21st century global citizens, interested in other cultures and relishing the opportunities to communicate in another language.

Year seven french

Course Overview

In French pupils will learn how to use indefinite and definite articles as well as numbers up to 100. They will learn rules relating to pronunciation/spelling and the alphabet. They will be able to meet and greet people and they will know the difference between tu and vous. They will learn the date, age and birthdays and will be able to understand and use classroom instructions/ objects in the target language. They will be able to use adjectives, agreements and possessive adjectives. In addition they will learn the present tense of avoir, être, er verbs, reflexive and some common irregular verbs. They will be able to use negatives and describe family, pets, physical descriptions, character descriptions and jobs. They will spend time practising how to discuss school subjects, giving opinions and reasons. They will also tell the time and describe their school day.

Year seven german

Course Overview

They will be able to use adjectives, possessive adjectives and kein. In addition they will learn the present tense of haben, sein, regular verbs, reflexive and some common irregular verbs. They will be able to use negatives and describe family, pets, physical descriptions, character descriptions and jobs. They will spend time practising how to discuss school subjects, giving opinions and reasons in weil clauses. They will also tell the time and describe their school day.

Year eight french

Course Overview

In French pupils will learn numbers above 100 and the present tense of all regular verbs with -er, -re and -ir. They will be able to make complex sentences using quand et si and be able to give information on the weather in different places. They will be able to use the immediate future (aller + infinitive) and modal verbs (pouvoir; devoir; vouloir) and also the simple future (infinitive + endings). They will make arrangements and be able to negotiate and state future plans and intentions. In addition they will learn the partitive article and size, quantity and measures and be able to follow and write recipes, prepare a menu and buy food and drink. They will spend time practising the perfect tense with avoir and être and reflexives and learn direct object pronouns, le/la/l'/les. They will be able to receive a guest and express thanks and appreciation.

Year eight german

Course Overview

This year pupils will learn how to introduce themselves and use greetings, give names, ages, where they live and birthdays. They will learn numbers 1-100 and use the alphabet to spell out words and   understand letter strings - sch, ei. ie, ch. In addition they will talk about school subjects and give their opinions and tell the time in German. They will understand food and drink vocabulary and be able to talk about school uniform. They will learn how to use regular verbs in the present and essen and trinken. They will talk about family and pets, describing physical appearance and giving character descriptions. Pupils will learn about sports, hobbies and interests and make arrangements to go out. They will learn how to from the future tense and the perfect tenses. Pupils will learn about towns and cities in Germany and be able to talk about buildings in the town and give directions.  They will be able to talk about the weather and describe future and past holidays.

Year nine french

Course Overview

In Year 9 pupils specialise in either French or German

During year 9 we will be learning how to use the perfect tense of verbs with avoir and être and words and phrases referring to the past in a variety of topics. They will be able to describe illnesses and other health problems and possible remedies and give information about healthy lifestyle (past, present, future).  They will also be able to discuss clothes and fashion, styles and materials and give their opinions. Pupils will also describe TV programmes and films and be able to understand and write a film review.
