Transition questions

If students need additional help from teachers in subjects how and when does this happen?

The school has a range of support structures to assist students with their learning. As well as the main class teaching, we have a learning support department, teaching assistants and mentors to support students.

What are the uniform requirements for September?

Uniform should be worn by students. The department of education has made clear that is for the governing body of a school to make decisions regarding school uniform. Guidance states “We would, however, encourage all schools to return to their usual uniform policies in the autumn term. Uniform can play a valuable role in contributing to the ethos of a school and setting an appropriate tone. Uniforms do not need to be cleaned any more often than usual, nor do they need to be cleaned using methods which are different from normal.”

What are the timetable plans for year seven in September?

Further information on this will be included in the letter home to parents and explained at the zoom meeting for parents of year six on 15th July.

Are there plans to have year seven in on their own at some point before they start back before the other students start?

We plan for year seven students to be able to attend school as part of a phased return of all students to school. Further details on this will be issued as part of a letter of information for parents.

Has any consideration been given to school buses - often seem very full?

The school has meetings arranged to discuss travel with the local authority. We will update this information as soon as it is available.

Issues with email address transitions@chilwellschool.co.uk not being found.

Parents of year six students have been emailed to inform them that they can use either address. transition@ and transitions@ are both valid email addresses to the inbox. Where we are aware of omissions, we have added any missing parent/carer email addresses to the relevant email groups.

How will students/parents find more information about their form tutor?

Mr Hobbs has a number of activities planned to allow students to be able to find out more about the school, their year group, and other students in their tutor group.

Has the school put any thought into developing a recovery curriculum?

The school has developed a number of resources to support students in their return to school. These will be used with students on an individual, small group or whole class basis dependent upon the need identified.

Tried to access the transition website today and said 'not found'

What are the plans for learning in September? Will any of it be an online based curriculum and if so how will this work + how will students be supported?

All students will be expected in school. Details of how the curriculum will be organised and teaching of students will be shared through letters home to parents of year six students.

What support is in place for EAL students and how is this accessed?

EAL and language support is provided through individual and small group language support. NCC recommends the following translation service: http://www.languageshop.org/document-translation

How can we join the weekly assembly videos of Mr Hobbs?

These are available here, in the transition section of the school website.

What are Primary schools R4S pack activities?

These are activities that are available via the primary school to assist students with the process of transition. There are a number of activities that help prepare the students for secondary school education.

Where can I find more information about the Chilwell school system? Will there be a class teacher? What is the timetable for Y6? What subjects will be taught?

Information on the curriculum can be found here on the website.

Was the zoom meeting recorded?

No, but the second part of the meeting will be held on Wednesday 15th July.
