Welcome to Chilwell School

Share, Care, Believe, Achieve

Life in the Sixth Form

We are committed to providing an aspirational learning experience where everyone feels valued and individual needs and ambitions are met.

Our high standards and expectations are driven through a challenging, stimulating and enjoyable learning environment, where everyone feels safe and supported and each individual works towards their personal targets.

As the world evolves so will our community as we produce global citizens for the future. We believe in the ideals that learning is for life, life is for learning and each and every one of us can determine the success of our future.

Chilwell school’s Lakeview sixth form promotes high achievement by working together to:

  • Be reflective and understand ourselves and others
  • Challenge and motivate us to flourish in learning and in life
  • Be flexible and adaptable in an ever-developing global community
  • Be inquisitive and make enquiries in order to extend ourselves
  • Develop our cultural capital so that we better understand the way in which we have been shaped
  • Generate pride in the Chilwell community and environment.

Chilwell’s sixth form is a more adult environment where you are expected to take responsibility for your own learning. Your behaviour, attitude to learning, attainment and effort will be taken into account when writing references, so please ensure that you keep this in mind.

ATTENDANCE

All students are expected to arrive at 8.40am for morning registration and tutorial activities. This is not optional.

Initially, all year twelve students are expected to be in sixth form until the end of each day. You will engage in subject lessons and enrichment as well as supervised study sessions. At the start of term, we want to assess your ability to work independently and effectively, and a full day will give us the opportunity to monitor this most accurately. At the end of the first half term students who are punctual, up to date, making effective notes, completing homework activities and using study time well will be given the opportunity to choose if they go off site for their study periods. If you need further support, you will be asked to remain in school so we can guide you until working at the required level. We will continue to assess the progress and performance of all and if any student seems to fall behind for whatever reason, we will ask them to return to a more traditional full day.

Attendance will be closely monitored by our attendance officer and if any concerns arise, we will address this with students initially and make contact with parents.

PUNCTUALITY

It is important that you arrive promptly for tutor time and lessons as lateness causes disruption. Each lesson will be registered and action taken with patterns of lateness.

ASSEMBLIES

An assembly will take place each week on a Monday morning. Year twelve have an assembly on one week, year thirteen the following week and then a joint sixth form assembly every third week. Attendance 100% Below 90% Below 85% What we say Excellent Cause for concern. Serious concern. Withdrawal from course considered.

FOOD

Food will be available in our new sixth form canteen. Students will be able to buy snacks, drinks and hot food throughout the day.

All students will receive a Chromebook, allowing them to work in school and remotely. Chromebooks will be the responsibility of students and should be on site with students every day. Please ensure that chargers are accessible at all times. Please complete the necessary acceptable use agreements before collecting your chromebook.

PHOTOCOPYING

The photocopier in Lakeview is available for student use. You will be provided with an initial print balance which you must then top up with your own money. The instructions for how to do this are on the wall above the photocopier. Your tutors will show you how to use it.
