Welcome to Chilwell School

Share, Care, Believe, Achieve

18th March 2022

Friday's Red Nose Day was a lovely day, with lots of smiles as well as a grand total of £760 raised for Comic Relief. Further news and photos are available here.

We are also really delighted with the success of Isaac McLeod in being cast in the premiere of First Touch at Nottingham Playhouse. For further news on this exciting opportunity please see the news item.

School council and our governing body

There have been meetings of year councils this week, with the opportunity for students to shape the future of the school. Once all year councils have met, the pupil parliament will meet together to draw out the main priorities for students. I am pleased that so far the feedback is that students are feeling well supported and appreciate the plans we have in place to improve social spaces and catering facilities.

The full governing body met on Wednesday and discussed the future plans for the school and the developments that have taken place over the last year. Now that we are full in every year group, it means that the school is in a strong financial position and this will be seen in the investment we can put in to the provision for students over the coming year and beyond. We are always keen to develop the capacity in the governing body too and so if you have particular strengths that would benefit the school, we would be keen to hear from you.

Clubs

I had the pleasure of working with Mr Lodge on Thursday in helping with the badminton club. With over sixty students in the sports halls, it was a busy after school session and it was good to see so many students taking the opportunity to use the school facilities at the end of the day.

However, on a linked note, we do have a number of students who are choosing to leave their bikes at school for a number of hours at the end of the day before returning to collect them. This is causing an issue for our premises staff and so please can parents ensure that students leave the site with all their belongings when the school day or club is finished so that we can start the process of locking up the site.

Year thirteen parents evening

With the next set of assessments taking place for year eleven and year thirteen students, we will be inviting parents and carers of year thirteen students to make appointments with subject teachers. We have now confirmed the date for this as Thursday 21st April, which will give parents the opportunity to get the latest information as we move towards the summer examinations.
