Welcome to Chilwell School

Share, Care, Believe, Achieve

21st May 2021

A couple of days late for this blog as I was involved in discussions with Public Health England on Friday. There are some updates before we reach the half-term break.

You will be aware of the outbreak of COVID cases in Long Eaton and we have had a number of our own cases. In addition, schools in the city have been undertaking a programme of rapid testing as a result of a number of incidences of the variant B.1.617.2. Public Health England have asked for details of close contact for a number of students who were affected in our own school and we will make contact on Monday to seek permission to pass on details of those students affected to Public Health. More information for these specific students will be sent home on Monday.

Staying safe

Thank you for the incredible support we have had from parents and students in continuing with wearing masks in school. Having made the decision, it was clear that others were also following suit across the country and the school featured on Central news towards the end of the week. We will keep the situation under review so that we can continue to stay safe and offer the best we can.

Year eleven and thirteen students

We are entering the final week of assessment for year eleven and year thirteen students. They have done so well in facing the challenges and we still have a number of events planned to mark the end of their formal education with us. For year eleven students starting A level courses with us, they will receive their timetable this week for the three week induction programme after half-term. All year eleven students will receive online support materials to support them in preparing for the next stage of their education.

Parent Governors

Thank you for the parents who put themselves forward as governors. On Friday, the election process ended and I am pleased that we now have grown capacity within our governing body.

Summer school and primary transition

We continue to plan our summer school for a number of students making the transition from primary school. I discussed this with our primary head teachers on Friday and further information will be issued in the transition packs. We look forward to further evening parent meetings and are planning for all of our new students having a range of activities on site before the end of the summer term.

**PLEASE NOTE** Calls may be monitored or recorded for training and quality purposes.
