Welcome to Chilwell School

Share, Care, Believe, Achieve

13th December 2019

This is the last head teacher's blog before the end of term and so I want to take this opportunity to wish you all a very enjoyable Christmas and new year.

This week has brought into focus the impact of the school in a broader context. Monday was our family of schools' Christingle and it was a delightful evening. See here for more pictures.

On Tuesday, we had a visit from the regional director for the Duke of Edinburgh award scheme. This was part of the process of quality assurance and an opportunity for us to re-state our commitment to the award. I wrote in my report for the visit that "it is the right and responsibility of all students to achieve their full potential and to get the most from their education. The Duke
of Edinburgh award shares the same values that we hope to instil in our students." I was really pleased to hear how the school is valued and there was a lot of praise for the work of the school. My continued thanks to Mr Harris and our team of staff who continue to offer this fabulous experience to students.

On Wednesday, we were very proud of Ms Davies, who was a finalist at the Crowne Plaza in the Nottinghamshire Education awards for inspirational teacher of the year. We are proud of all of our staff, but it was a special pleasure to see Ms Davies recognised for the commitment and drive that she offers. "We see her energy, clear subject expertise and support for children, whether it is in her classroom or one of her team's. She combines a calm and caring approach with a refusal to accept less than the best efforts of her students." Well done!

Finally, my thank you to our students who have been undertaking mock examinations this week. They have approached them with organisation and commitment and we look forward to the results in January. This has been an important process in the build up of revision for the summer examinations. All students should now have prepared a revision timetable and sticking to it so that the habits continue through to the end of this calendar year and into the spring.

Please remember our "Carols around the Tree" at 6pm on Monday 16th, our Christmas jumper and dinner day on Wednesday and our end of term at 12pm on Thursday.

Best wishes to you all.
